Benjamin Franklin Glass, 65; of Crestview, FL passed away peacefully under the care of hospice on June 21, 2025 surrounded by family and friends.
Ben was born in Marianna, FL on January 5, 1960. He graduated from Sneads High School in 1978. Ben immediately began his law enforcement career with the Sneads Police Dept., then transferred to the Marianna Police Dept. It was while working in Marianna that he met his wife, Sherrie, who worked at a local bank. If Ben never told you about meeting Sherrie at the bank, you missed a treat because he loved telling about being overdrawn over and over.
In 1981, Ben joined the Florida Highway Patrol. He served the State of Florida for 31 years. He loved being a State Trooper because he loved helping and serving those in need. Ben was also assigned to the recruiting department and was instrumental in introducing new people to the agency. He was passionate about it. For many years, Ben was a beloved firearms instructor at the FHP training academy in Tallahassee. His love for guns and teaching helped him with the challenges of teaching new recruits how to be proficient. He was certified as a distinguished shooter. After retirement in 2013, he taught firearms at Northwest FL State College. He also enjoyed bass fishing, dove hunting and playing golf.
Ben was predeceased in death by his father, Clarence Coy Glass, his mother, Ann Underwood, 4 brothers, and 1 sister. He was survived by his wife, Sherrie, his sons, Coy (Arielle) Glass, of Pensacola, FL, Cody (Laura) Glass, of Crestview, FL, and Cole Glass of Austin, TX, and 6 precious grandchildren, Blu, Levi, Tyler, Levi Benjamin, Grayson and Emmy. He was also survived by 3 brothers, Walter (Liz) Glass, Ted (Carol) Glass, Rick (Jeannie) Glass, and 2 sisters, Mary (Robert) Browne, and Virginia Newman and numerous nieces and nephews. He was also survived by his best friend of 43 years, Rick Warden, of Chipley, FL and his close friend and golfing buddy, Wayne Fox, of Crestview, FL.
Ben’s first love was his Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. After that, his top priority was his family, his wife, Sherrie, of almost 44 years, his 3 amazing sons, and his 6 precious grandchildren. They were his heart and soul and he lit up every time they were around right up until his last few days. He was their number one fan and supporter.
Ben will be remembered for his kindness, unwavering integrity and his love for his family, friends and his God. Everyone that knew him loved him and he will be greatly missed.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to your charity of choice or a ministry at Woodlawn Baptist Church.
Thank you to Emerald Coast Hospice for their excellent care and support, especially Heather, Eleashya, Michelle and Beverly. Also thanks to Vitas Hospice inpatient unit at Ascension Sacred Heart in Pensacola especially Jennifer, Sadie and Alisa.
A celebration of Ben’s life will be on Saturday, June 28, 2025 beginning at 11:00 a.m. at Woodlawn Baptist Church with Pastor Jason Allen, Pastor Bob McNeil, Rick Warden and Colonel Gary Howze officiating. The family will receive friends on Saturday, June 28, 2025 from 9:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at Woodlawn Baptist Church.

My prayers to the family. Good friend and good fellow Trooper. I enjoyed working with him. After our retirement, I would often see him while attending our grandkids events. He would smile and always walk up to me and give me a hug. I will miss him.

Ben was one of the finest men I have ever known. He was a true friend. I looked forward to having Ben come to the farm during dove season. I have never seen someone that loved dove hunting as much as Ben. I pray for Sherry and all the family and we know Ben has no more pain. Loved him like a brother.

Dan and I will be forever grateful for our friendship with Ben and Sherry. Ben was a wonderful man who never knew a stranger and always greeted everyone with a smile and a handshake. He will be missed so much by his family and many friends. He was such a fine man and Dan and I will miss him forever. The world lost a true gentleman but heaven gained a remarkable angel.
Our thoughts and prayers are with Sherry and all his family and friends.
