James E. Cain 83, passed away on Sunday, July 23, 2023 peacefully at home. James was born on March 9, 1940 in Milligan, Florida to James and Eunice Cain and remained as a lifelong resident of Okaloosa County. James was a 1958 graduate of Crestview High School where he played football with the Crestview High School Bulldogs #39 as a lineman. He had two successful careers in his life he retired from the United States Postal Service and Okaloosa County School Board. James was a member of the First Baptist Church of Milligan and a Mason, Concord Lodge #50 F. & M.
James was preceded in death by his parents James Ezell Cain & Eunice Merritt Enzor as well as his sister, Janice D. Cain.
James is survived by numerous cousins.
A funeral will be held on Tuesday, August 1, 2023 beginning at 2:00 p.m. from the Chapel of Brackney Funeral Service with Pastor Charles Smith officiating. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, August 1, 2023 from 1:00 p.m. – 2:00 p.m. at the funeral home. James will be laid to rest at Old Bethel Cemetery with his family.

He would always come to our Merritt reunion, so very sorry, we have had alot of the Merritts and cousins to pass on these past couple years, prayers with all his family and friends

Such a sweet soul…I have known James many years from working at Winn Dixie and then Okaloosa County …will definitely miss seeing him around town.RIP Mr Cain♥️🙏

James was my grandmothers (annie belle merritt duke) nephew. I always enjoyed his visits and looking through his genealogy scrapbooks learning about the family history. Prayers sent to the family.

I will miss getting Christmas cards from him every year
