Lonnie Josh Smith

Lonnie Josh Smith, age 65, of Laurel Hill, Florida, found eternal peace on September 13, 2024, when he lost his battle against cancer.

Josh is preceded in death by his beloved brothers, Danny Ray Smith and Matthew Lucas Smith, his nephews, Danny Ray Smith Junior, and James D. Smith, and his son-in-law Marine Corps- Sergeant, Michael Lee Calvin, as well as his father, Lessie Ray Smith.

Josh is survived by his beloved mother, Dollie Mae Snipes, his daughters, Leeann Teresa Thornhill, and Retired Marine Corps SSgt Leslie Michelle Calvin, and three grandchildren, Michael Lee Calvin Junior, McKenzie Cheyenne Calvin, and Kaitlyn Abigail Calvin and his brother, Steven Smith.

Josh was an avid hunter and fisherman and had a gift for growing plants and was revered in south Florida nurseries for his ability to create hybrid foliage in Apopka, Florida, which is the indoor foliage capital of the world. In his later years he was a horticultural climber, a master at felling timber. His loyalty to his family defined his life. His memory will forever abide with the legacy of the family members who remain. Blessings, until we meet again.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, September 25, 2024 beginning at 11:00 a.m. from the Chapel of Brackney Funeral Service with Pastor Jason Stokes officiating. Burial to follow at Rock Hill Cemetery 4490 Rock Hill Cemetery Road Laurel Hill, Florida 32567. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, September 25, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
