Bertha Joyner, 79, of Crestview, Florida, passed away on Thursday, May 7, 2026, in the comfort of her own home.
Bertha was born on October 18, 1946, in Crestview, Florida, to William Wallace King and Nancy Ellasue Mathews King. She graduated from Laurel Hill High School and proudly served in the United States Marine Corps for two years. She later worked as a clerk typist for the phone companies Sprint and Centel, dedicating 42 years of service.
Bertha was a kind, loving, and compassionate woman. She was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother, and to know her was to love her. She had a deep love for her family and a special way of making those around her feel cared for.
Bertha enjoyed working in her garden, where she grew the most beautiful plants and flowers. She had a passion for cooking and baking, and she loved spending time outdoors with her husband and son. She especially loved butterflies and hummingbirds and always took time to enjoy the little things in life.
Bertha is preceded in death by her parents, William Wallace King and Nancy Ellasue Mathews King; her husband, Joe Joyner; her grandson, Joshua Tidwell; and her sister, Ellafaye Boyette.
Bertha is survived by her son, Gregory Wallace Joyner (Beverly); her granddaughter, Bethany Joyner Cartwright (Joneric); her niece, Deborah Boyette (Dale); two grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; and a host of family and friends who loved and adored her.
A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, beginning at 10:00 a.m. from the Chapel of Brackney Funeral Service Marc King officiating. Burial will follow at Elizabeth Chapel Cemetery, 7792 Chumuckla Highway, County Road 197, Chumuckla, Florida. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 12, 2026, from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. at the funeral home.
Bertha’s love, warmth, and gentle spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her.
