Chief Ronnie Adams gave us so many happy memories that will forever make us smile. He once asked if we could build a gate between our two properties so he wouldn’t have to go all the way around the block just to come over for coffee. Of course, the gate was built — because coffee with Ronnie was always worth it.

Then he decided he wanted a flagpole like ours, especially so he could hang Christmas lights. Done. He would supervise Bert & Ms. Margaret as they set up his Christmas cheer.

We loved sharing stories about working on B-52s. Ronnie proudly told me how he jumped off the wing of a B-52 in Guam to grab a fuel hose that was spilling fuel. I reminded him that it was definitely a safety violation! With that big smile of his, he answered, “But I was getting the fuel hose that was spilling fuel!” I told him he deserved an award for that one.

One of the things we will treasure most is how he always called my grandkids and me “Sweethearts.” The truth is, Ronnie was the real sweetheart to all of us. His kindness, humor, friendship, and caring spirit made life brighter for everyone around him. He will always hold a special place in our hearts.
