David Webster Coon

David Webster Coon passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by his loving family on Saturday, April 20, 2024. 

David was born on April 1, 1950 in Jacksonville, FL to Cecil and Margaret Coon both of whom were natives of Covington County, AL. He resided most of his life in both Florida and Alabama. In 1971, he would marry the love of his life, Carol Linda Harrell, and they began a beautiful life together ultimately making Crestview their home in 1974. David proudly served in the Army during the Vietnam War. He retired from the Okaloosa County School District in 2012 and is still fondly remembered by so many from his days of working at Baker School and other locations within the district. David was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed camping, boating, fishing, woodworking and gardening. Along with watching his favorite football team, Alabama, he really enjoyed watching Gunsmoke. He took pride in all that he did and after retirement would tirelessly work on his beautiful vegetable garden and maintaining an immaculate yard along with wife Carol. The two enjoyed so many wonderful times together! 

David is survived by his loving wife of 53 years, Carol Coon and their children Sherry Seymour (Ricky) and Daniel Coon (Jill). He was known as PawPaw Coon to his grandchildren whom he loved so very much – Kylee Seymour, Ethan Coon, Austin Seymour, Brinley Coon and Sophie Seymour. David is also survived by his siblings Cecilia Hollingsworth, Dale Coon (Marilyn) and Pam Matice (Randy), numerous nieces/nephews and a host of special friends who were more like family over the years. 

David was a member of Damascus Baptist Church. Over the last several years, First Baptist Church of Laurel Hill is where he would attend and call home to worship. We find comfort in knowing that David will spend eternity with his Heavenly Father. The family would like to thank everyone for their kindness during this time.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, April 24, 2024 beginning at 1:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Laurel Hill 3972 2nd Avenue Laurel Hill, Florida 32567 with Pastor Mike McVay officiating. Burial to follow at the Christian Home Community Church Cemetery 1479 Parrish Road Lockhart, Alabama. The Family will receive friends on Wednesday, April 24, 2024 from 12:00 p.m. ~ 1:00 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Laurel Hill.
