Jerry Lynn Fortune, 79, passed away peacefully in his home, surrounded by the people he loved on July 5, 2024, in Crestview, Florida. Born on February 26, 1945, in Round Lake, Jackson County, Florida, Jerry was known for his hardworking, generous, and kind nature. He consistently prioritized the needs of others above his own, making him a beloved figure in his community and family.
Jerry was the retired owner and heavy equipment operator at Jerry’s Concrete and Site Contractors, where he demonstrated his detail-oriented and talented approach to site construction. His career was marked by dedication and a deep commitment to quality in every project he undertook.
Outside of work, Jerry was an avid motorsports enthusiast. In his earlier years, he not only enjoyed watching NASCAR and various cup races but also actively participated in numerous dirt and short-track races, often with the help of family and friends. His passion for racing was a significant aspect of his life, bringing joy and excitement to those around him.
Jerry is survived by his loving wife, Nancy Fortune; sons, Daniel (Jennifer) Dance and Thomas (Kari) Fortune; daughters, Jennifer Fortune, Nikki Dance, Annette Evans, Gwen Barnes, Lynn White, Denise King, and Deanna Strickland; sister, Fay Harrison; brothers, Curtis (Mary) Selvage and Richard Riggleman; and several grandkids, great-grandkids, and extended relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, Elijah and Pennielee Fortune; brothers, James and Bobby Fortune; and sister, Lela Kay McCroan.
A celebration of life will be held on Friday, July 12, 2024 beginning at 11:00 a.m from the Chapel of Brackney Funeral Service 480 East James Lee Blvd. Crestview, Florida. The family will be receiving friends on Thursday, July 11th, 2024, from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Chapel of Brackney Funeral Service and on Friday, July 12, 2024 from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. at the Chapel of Brackney Funeral Service in Crestview, Florida.
Jerry’s warm, caring smile and generous spirit will be deeply missed by all who knew him and loved him.
