It is with heavy hearts that we announce our father, Coleman Kakela Peters, departed on June 22, 2025, at the age of 71. Coleman was born on April 18, 1954, in Honolulu, Hawaii, to Burnnadeen and Herbert Peters. As a military child, he had the opportunity to travel and live throughout the U.S. mainland and abroad. He often spoke fondly of his time in Okinawa and Germany, where he met lifelong friends. Eventually he returned home to Hawaii and graduated from Waipahu High School in 1972.
Coleman proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and continued his commitment to public service with a long and successful career at the United States Postal Service in both Hawaii and Crestview, Florida. He retired on December 31, 2014.
Post retirement Coleman enjoyed traveling, visiting with friends and family and playing Hawaiian music with his band mates the Island Brothers. He loved sharing a good meal and “talking story.” He is most remembered for his special way of connecting with people and sharing the Aloha spirit.
Coleman’s legacy lives on through his children: Malakia Fife (Ryan Fife), Miriama Devine (Thomas Devine), Kakela Peters (Skylar Peters), and Kelii Peters (Dailen Peters). He was a proud grandfather to Keano Devine, Kaleo Devine, Meilana Devine, Canyon Fife, Chandler Fife, Kekoa Peters, Ka‘iulani Peters, Kaimana Peters, Naoki Peters, and Aike Peters, and a loving great-grandfather to Kai and Kyler Devine. He is also survived by his siblings Jody and Kelley Peters and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his brother Rhani Peters and parents Burnnadeen and Herbert Peters.
A memorial service will be held at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints on Thursday, July 3rd at 5pm in Crestview, Florida. All friends and Ohana are invited to attend.
Final resting services will take place in Oahu, Hawaii.
