Durwood Williamson – husband, father, grandfather and loyal friend – entered into eternal rest in the early morning hours of March 25th surrounded by his loving children. Born on January 1, 1938, in Jay, Florida, Durwood married Eula Faye Johnson in 1958, and they established their home in Fort Walton Beach – working there and raising their three children. In 1981, Durwood and Faye moved to Baker, embracing the community and making lasting connections. Durwood retired from the City of Fort Walton Beach Public Works in 1999 with 40 years of service as a dedicated employee. For many years, Durwood enjoyed taking part in countless horse shows and rodeos and the friendships that came along with this tight knit community. As an avid sportsman, Durwood’s enthusiasm for hunting, fishing and life in general left a lasting impression on all who knew him. He was a friend to all and as it’s been put by many the most loyal friend you could ever ask for. He was a family man and was happiest when surrounded by those he loved the most. Family get togethers continued to be his favorite pastime until his final days.
Durwood was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Linnie Mae Williamson, his wife of nearly 67 years, Eula Faye Williamson, siblings Gladys McCurdy (Everett), Cecil Williamson, Ann Schoeneman (Alvin) and brother-in-law Edward Smith. Survivors include his children, Tony Williamson, Karen Sims (Jerry), and Pete Williamson; grandchildren, Jesse Sims (Kristina), Jill Coon (Daniel), Alan Sims, Woody Williamson, and Corey Lanier; great-grandchildren, Ethan and Brinley Coon, and Sawyer, Andi, and Anson Sims; and his sister, Peggy Smith and his sister-in-laws, Faye Williamson and Shirley Hollington (A.W.).
Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Brackney Funeral Service. The family will receive visitors on Friday March 28th at 1 pm with the service to follow at 2 pm. Robert Hansford will officiate the service. Musical arrangements by Rachael Lyons and Robert Hansford. Pallbearers and Honorary Pallbearers are Jesse Sims, Alan Sims, Woody Williamson, Corey Lanier, Daniel Coon, Ethan Coon and Jeff Barron.
