Franklin Delano Lundy

November 9, 1933 ~ July 14, 2024

Franklin Delano Lundy, 90, peacefully passed away with his family by his side, on Sunday, July 14, 2024.  Dell was the youngest of twelve children born to George and Adelia Lundy on November 9,1933 in Laurel Hill, Florida.

As a young boy, Dell moved to Baker, Florida where he attended school.  Graduating Baker High School in 1953. Based on the stories he loved to tell, in addition to earning his diploma he created many headaches for his teachers and principle. He briefly attended FSU and played football for one season.

Dell married his high school sweetheart, Shirley Kathryn Henderson on June 11, 1954; they recently celebrated their 70th anniversary.

Dell, an extremely hard worker, thought work was the same as play. So it is no surprise that his life is measured by the jobs he took pride in.  He worked for Borden Dairy and Chemstrand/Monsanto.  Then while continuing to work his day job, he attended night classes at PJC graduating from their first Metallurgy program.  He worked as a welder for Westinghouse Electric for several years prior to spending the next 30 years as a welder on the oil rigs in the Gulf of Mexico. When home from the Gulf he could be found in his Ford 350 with his Bob-Cat and dump trailer in tow headed to help someone in need. He reluctantly retired at age 70.  During his early retirement years, he taught welding part time at George Stone Technical College.

During the early 1970’s Dell and Shirley along with a small group of friends met for weekly prayer meetings and Bible study. From these gatherings, Charity Chapel was founded in 1975 and still today is a flourishing church serving the Pensacola area.

Once their children were grown, Dell and Shirley made their home-away-from-home in Lake Jackson, Texas giving them more time together when Dell was between job assignments. During these years, they attended Shady Oaks Assembly of God church where they met many people who became life-long friends. One sweet little girl from their “Texas family”, grew up and became their granddaughter-in-love.

Dell was preceded in death by his parents, siblings and grandson, Allen Stuart Lundy.  Dell is survived by his loving wife, Shirley, their children Bruce (Donna) Lundy, Ben (Peggy) Lundy, Sheila (Scotty) Cagle, Patsy (Mike) Eady. Grandchildren Frank (Lana) Lundy, John (Emily) Lundy, Daniel (Katey) Lundy, Amanda (Houston) Lowery, Amber (Jeremy) Tedder, Amie (Steven) Pace, Ashley Vaughn, Andrew (Heather) Lundy, Aaron (Samantha) Lundy, Laurel (Cory) Moore, Jasmine Tucker, Silas (Amanda) Tucker, Shelley (Skip) Hughes, Michael (Kimberly) Eady, Matthew (Amanda) Eady, Victoria (Trent) Lambert; 36 great grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild.

A celebration of life will be held Thursday, July 18, 2024, 2:30 p.m. at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Baker, Florida, Pastor Michael Collins officiating. Burial to follow at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends between 1:30 p.m. – 2:30 p.m. at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church.

We first met Mr. Dell at Frank and Lana’s wedding.
We were impressed that he was so easy to talk to…he and his wife Shirley could easily keep you entertained for hours or as long as you had.
We were intrigued by the diverse endeavors of Mr. Dell and realized he was most happy when he was working and helping others. We believe he set a good foundation in example for his family and are pleased our daughter became part of their family on that day February 12, 2005.
