Glendia Ellen (May) Johnson 86, of Crestview, Florida went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on March 15, 2025.
Glendia was the loving mother of and is survived by Rhonda (Rickey) Henderson, Tammy (Billy) Foster, Bobby (Renee) Johnson and Lou (Dean) Barrow. She is also survived by her 11 grandchildren, Rickey Henderson, Randy Henderson, Robbie Henderson, Bryan Foster, Amanda Foster, Lauren Johnson, Jamey Johnson, Rainey Kilacky, Colby Hall, Lacey Crews, and Haley Boland, as well as 19 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild. She is also survived by five sisters, Faye, Myra, Hilda, Joanne, and Vicky.
As her children, we always knew that our mother loved us fiercely, but her pride and joy were those grand babies. The discussions around the table today were of the many games of “doopty-do”, patty cake and peek-a-boo and the countless times she sang those babies to sleep on her back porch swing. But even more important than the memories of the times that she encouraged us through our roughest times, the games she played with our babies, and their babies, and the songs she sang, was that she made sure that we all knew who Jesus was and that we could depend on Him.
Glendia was preceded in death by her parents, James and Vonnie May, her sister Shirley Robinson, and her brother, Jimmy May.
Glendia had two long-term careers. She worked at Centel for many years and, when she retired, became the 911 coordinator for Okaloosa County, where she was instrumental in developing the 911 system.
Glendia also had many friends here in Crestview that she loved dearly, and we were thankful that, as dementia took over her short-term memory in recent years, she was able to hold on to the long-term memories of her dearest friends, Marie and Lavon Spoon, Shelby Stewart, Lisa Gray, and June White, just to name a few.A graveside service will be held at the Live Oak Park Memorial Cemetery on Wednesday, March 19, 2025, at 2:00 PM with Chaplain Ralph Molyneux officiating.Brackney Funeral Service, Crestview, is entrusted with arrangements. You can share memories and offer condolences at http://www.brackneyfuneralservice.com
