Lester Lavaughn Whitfield, 72, passed away peacefully, surrounded by the
people he loved on July 9, 2024, in Crestview, Florida. Born on August 12,
1951, Crestview, Florida,

Lavaughn was known for his hardworking, generous,
and kind nature. He consistently prioritized the needs of others above his own,
making him a beloved figure in his community and family. He was known as
“Squirrel” to many and “Papa” at the local Brown’s Grocery in Holt. He had a
passion for Christmas music and he also loved his dog “Little Girl” more than
anything in the world.

Lavaughn started his career as a Painter at Fairchild
Industries Inc., and then did self-contracting painting for many years before

retiring.
He really enjoyed being outdoors whether it was camping, hunting or
fishing. He was a member of various hunting and fishing clubs over the years.

Lavaughn is preceded in death by his mother Lois Holland and father Alvin
Lee Whitfield, and stepfather William Clipper.

Lavaughn is survived by Susan Clay of 23 years; Susan’s daughter Joanna Clay;

son Christopher Whitfield; sisters
Carolyn Jean Melton, Teresa Clipper Wayne, Joyce Whitfield McCrory and
Linda Gayle Welch; brother Alvin Eugine Whitfield; Uncle Joseph Adams;
cousins Bobby and David Adams; nephew Timothy Eugene Whitfield and
numerous other nieces, nephews, cousins and extended family and friends.

A celebration of life will be held on Friday, July 19, 2024, 4:00 p.m to 6:00pm in
the Chapel of Brackney Funeral Service 480 East James Lee Blvd. Crestview,

Lavaughn’s warm, caring smile and generous spirit will be deeply
missed by all who knew him and loved him. In Lieu of Flowers the family asks
that any charitable donations be made to Emerald Coast Hospice Services.

I have so many memories of our family, fishing , hunting, camping, cookouts, and just showing up at each others house to just share stories and laugh together. I’m sure that “Wild Indian” has been saving a good fishing spot for you up there. You will be missed by many.
