Susan Elizabeth Diven met her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on July 9, 2025. She was born to L.C. and Doris Youngblood on November 6, 1954, in DeFuniak Springs, Florida, and was a lifelong resident of Crestview, Florida.
A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, teacher, and friend, Susan poured her heart into serving others. She attended OWJC, LBW, Troy State, and the University of West Florida, earning her Specialist Degree in Elementary Education and Exceptional Student Education. She spent 36 years teaching 1st and 2nd grade at Northwood Elementary School, where her love for her students and colleagues left an indelible mark. In recognition of her dedication, she was honored as Teacher of the Year for the 2009–2010 school year.
Susan is survived by her husband of 42 years, Jerry; her two sons, David (Suzanne) and Daniel (Stacey); four grandchildren, Dustin(Emily), Sydney(Gabe) , Lane, and Brooke; and two great-grandchildren, Kane and Braxton. She also leaves behind her brother, Leon Youngblood (Sandy) of Dallas, Texas, and many beloved nieces and nephews.
Although she married into an instant family, she claimed her children and grandchildren as her own, loving and spoiling them unconditionally. She also cherished her favorite fur babies, Calico and Shadow, who brought her joy and companionship.
During her teaching career, Susan touched countless lives — students and teachers alike — and for many years began each school day by reading a Bible story to her students, planting seeds of faith and hope in young hearts. Even in her final weeks, she continued using her God-given gift of encouragement, sending cards, making calls and texts, and sharing her loving smile, always putting others before herself — a true testament to her unconditional love.
The family extends special thanks to Dr. Kara Brooks and staff at Sacred Heart Medical Group Crestview, NOMC, Mayo Clinic Jacksonville, Duke University Hospital in North Carolina, Emerald Coast Hospice for making her last six months more bearable and comfortable while dealing with Pulmonary Fibrosis for the past 4 years.
Thanks to the Emmanuel Baptist Church family for their prayers, visits, food, and support.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Journey Giving Fund at Emmanuel Baptist Church, 3252 East James Lee Blvd., Crestview, FL 32539, in Susan’s memory.
Susan Elizabeth Diven was truly a Proverbs 31 woman — clothed with strength and dignity, speaking with wisdom, and faithfully serving her family, her students, her church, and her Lord. She will be deeply missed and forever loved.

Susan was a very special member and friend. Her random acts of kindness made the difference and she was a constant encourager. While Heaven gained a beautiful Believer, we will miss her until we see her again.

Susan sent cards and notes with prayers and occasional gift cards for years when I became a single parent. She was such a kind soul. The notes always arrived at the most perfect time. I am thankful for her prayer over us.
