Mikel M Currie

September 30, 1944~February 29, 2020

Mikel Mayo Currie, Sr. left this life to be with the Lord on February 29, 2020. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather.
Mike was preceded in death by his Mother Annie L. Carver Stephens, Father Malcolm Mayo Currie, Brother Keeter Wayne Currie, and Sister Sharon Rose Currie Boles. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Irene Berta Currie, daughter Martha Currie Adams and Jimmy Adams, and son Mikel Mayo Currie Jr. and Michelle Renfroe. He has 4 grandchildren Andrea Adams Patten and Anthony Patten, Dylan Justice Currie, Destiny Summer Currie, and Mikel Aaron Currie. He has 2 great grandchildren Emily Patten and Elijah Patten.
Mike was a life-long resident of Crestview, Florida. He was a respected and loved business man from a very early age, working for his uncle at the age of 19 and opening his very own full service gas station, Mike’s Spur Station, at the age of 22. Not long after, Mike opened Crestview’s very first automobile detail service center. Later, Mike opened an auto mechanic service center, where he performed a full range of auto services and specialized in foreign trucks and cars. There was no problem he couldn’t solve. He treated every customer with kindness and fairness. He always said,” It’s the little things that make you or break you.”
He was the apex hunter and fisherman. His feats with a rifle during hunting season are legendary. His adventures on Yellow River will be told for ages. He was happiest fishing on the river and taking his daily nap on his boat with his love Irene. There was no deer he couldn’t track, no turkey he couldn’t call, and no fish he couldn’t catch. There was no shot too far and no target too fast. He was truly what every outdoor sportsman dreamed to become.
Mike was loved by all his family and friends. He was a very gentle man with a kind soul. He was a believer in, “If you have nothing good to say, say nothing at all.” He always had a way to make people smile and laugh with his one-liners and words of wisdom.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday evening March 4, 2020 at 5:00PM followed by a Celebration of Life at 6:00PM at the Milligan Assembly of God Church, located at 5408 Highway 4 Baker, Florida. Burial services will be held on Thursday morning March 5, 2020 at 10:00AM at the Live Oak Memorial Park.
Arrangements are entrusted to Brackney Funeral Service.

Knew Mike for many years back to the time he and his dad operated the store on North HWY 85. He was a very dear friend and would see him occasionally around town, stop and chat for a few moments…enjoyed sharing time with him…Will miss him dearly!

I known and loved the Currie family my whole life as I grew up down the road from them. Mike was one of the best he spoiled me rotten when I was a little girl. We would stop by the Oil Well gas station and he would tell me to get whatever candy I wanted. Then when Martha and Mikie was born I would babysit for them. He will forever be in my childhood memories as a much loved man.

Irene, sorry for your lost. We lived across the street about 4 houses down from the Spur. Dad and Macolm worked together at Elgin.

We never met in person, but I've heard so much about your sweet spirit from your daughter, Martha, that I felt as if we had met. May you be in peace and know that you were loved greatly and tenderly on this earth. May your memories with your loved ones fill their hearts. Prayers and blessings in abundance to your family.
