Bernard Elmo Willis Jr.

Bernard Elmo Willis Jr., 58 of DeFuniak Springs, Florida passed away on Friday, July 1, 2022. What can one say about a man who was loved so dearly by his family? With most certainty you can say he was deeply loved. Love is the greatest gift anyone can have. April 20, 1964, the world was graced with a bouncing bundle of joy that his parents, Bernard E. Willis Sr, and Yolanda Willis dotingly named Bernard E. Willis Jr.  Growing up, he was affectionately called Junior. Bernard grew up in Mary Esther Florida until his family moved to Defuniak Springs, Florida after he had joined the United States Navy. Once Bernard left the Navy, he began doing different jobs as a Truck Driver. Bernard married and had one daughter, Julianna, who is all grown up now and married to James Barfield. Bernard was divorced and never remarried.

Bernard is preceded in death by both his parents, first his father, Bernard Willis Sr. When he passed, Bernard devoted 17 years to taking care of his mother, Yolanda before she had passed. Although his passing was untimely and has left his family full of shock, sadness, and sorrow they cling to the memories they now hold dear. Bernard left behind his daughter, Julianna Barfield, Son in law, James Barfield, two brothers, his two loving sisters, Linda Cox and Bernadette (Bryan) Collier along with numerous nieces and nephews.

Grief is hard because it is love for one who is gone, but we must remember what seems like a goodbye is just “see you later alligator”.
