Betty Joan Melvin 83, of Baker Florida passed away on Saturday, January 7, 2023. Betty was born on January 8, 1939, in Crestview, Florida to James and Bessie Richards and has been a lifelong resident of Okaloosa County ever since. She was a homemaker who enjoyed being a caregiver to the elderly and loved her furbaby, Tinkerbell who is now being loved by Tim & Diane Stanley. Betty was a 1957 graduate of Baker High School and a member of Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church.

Family meant everything to Betty, she would spend all of her time with each one in their own special way.

Betty is preceded in death by her husband Marvin “Leo” Melvin and her sister, Deloris Medley Hart, her brothers, Roy Richards and Jimmy Richards.

Betty is survived by her children, Marty Melvin (Marla) of Panama City, Fl. and Kathy Frasure of Baker, Florida, her sisters, Joyce Cosson (John) of Baker, Florida and Linda Richards of Baker, Florida, three grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on Friday, January 13, 2023, beginning at 11:00 a.m., at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church with Pastor Geoff Prows officiating. Burial to follow in Pilgrim Rest Cemetery. The family will receive friends Friday, January 2023, from 10 am – 11 am at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church.
