Joe Slade Morgan Jr. 93 of Crestview Florida passed away on Wednesday, May 31, 2023. Slade was born on May 1, 1930, in Waxahachie, Texas to Joe and Louella Morgan.  He moved to Okaloosa County in 1982 and owned Seaco Sign Company. Slade was in the US Army and USAF. He was a kind gentleman, who treated everyone the same, fairly.

Slade entered the US Army at the age of 18 where he learned to fly glider planes, which he enjoyed very much.  After his time in the service ended in 1956 he became a self-proclaimed “hobo” and traveled around the United States sightseeing and working where he could.  He once worked at a circus where he agreed to be shot out of a cannon to earn $20.  He also worked as a “wing walker” and s a log blaster in Alaska.
Eventually, he earned his engineering degree and began his career of over 50 years in sign and crane manufacturing. He also consulted on some bridges as they were being built.  He was among the first to make and install neon signs and today still has a  Palomino horse sign in a museum in Arizona. He also built some of the first animated signs in Las Vegas.
Eventually he moved to Crestview Florida where he started Seaco Sign Company and was in business for 30 years before retiring.
His hobbies were wood working, rock collecting, bird watching and spending time with his dog, Jack.

Slade is survived by four sons, Jeffrey, Joe, Doug and Walter Morgan, two daughters, Jackie Buck (Brandon) and Belinda Grantham, his sisters, Texana Schaden and Pat Johnson, six grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, June 5, 2023, beginning at 6:00 p.m. from The Chapel of Brackney Funeral Service with Pastor Wayne Mathison. The family will receive friends on Monday June 5, 2023, from 5:00 pm – 6:00 p.m. at the funeral home.
