Joyce Stokes Mitchell 75 passed away Sunday May 08, 2022. Joyce was born on November 26, 1946, in Laurel Hill Florida to William Peter and Eloise Goolsby Stokes. She was a lifelong resident of Okaloosa County and a retired Bus Driver with the Okaloosa County School Board.

Joyce is preceded in death by her parents, William Peter Stokes and Eloise Goolsby Stokes and her siblings, Lester, Lowell, Frances, Peter, Dora, James, J.C., George, William, Ruthie, Lee, John and Lena, plus several In Laws she considered siblings.

Joyce is survived by her husband of 24 years Walter J Mitchell and special niece and exceptional caregiver Barni.

Her remaining siblings include, Martha, Joe, Wayne (Angie) and Sam (Joanne).

Also surviving are Joyce’s chosen, Hailee, Amanda, Austin, Justin, Jacob, Chase, Nicki and Colton. The light of her life was her two daughters, Jeri and Cyndi, who gave her seven grandchildren, Michael, Tasha, Candace, Martilynn, Jamie, Marc and Melody.

Joyce had nine great grandchildren and countless nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends spread far and wide who will miss her.

She is sorely missed by her special furry companion Dixie.

Funeral service will be held Friday May 13, 2022, beginning at 11:00 a.m., at First Baptist Church of Laurel Hill with Pastor Mike McVay officiating. Burial to follow at Almarante Cemetery in Laurel Hill. The family will receive friends Thursday, May 12, 2022, from 6-8 p.m. from the Chapel of Brackney Funeral Service.

We are thinking of you all at this difficult time. We were fortunate that in 1992 Joyce traveled to Vermont with her mother, Eloise and Buck to attend our wedding. Their presence made our special day even more special. She was always loving and kind, and will be deeply missed. Love to all.
