Melba Jean Shue

August 29, 1936~April 05, 2023

Melba Jean Shue, 86, of Baker passed away on April 5, 2023. She was born the first of five children at home on August 29, 1936, in Baker, FL to Willie and Thelma Sanford.

Melba married her sweetheart, Jackie Shue, in 1952 and had two children, Phillip and Pamela.  After a few years of Air Force moves, Jackie and Melba returned to Crestview/Baker where they would live out the rest of their days.  As Jackie finished his military career, Melba worked for the Crestview Hospital and lovingly raised their two children.

Upon Jackie’s retirement from the Air Force, they purchased a farm and began their life’s work together. However, Melba’s true passions and gifts were caring for her family and friends. She could grow anything and was the best country cook in all of the county, and if you came to visit, you were sure to leave full of good food and lots of love. However, her love really shone in her grandsons, Matthew and Seth, whom she adored.

Melba is preceded in death by her husband, Jackie L. Shue, her parents, Willie and Thelma Sanford, her brother, Hollis Sanford, her sister, Joyce Rhodes.

Melba is survived by her son, Phillip L. Shue (Kim) and grandson, Matt L. Shue, her daughter, Pamela J. Sisneros and her grandson, Seth Sisneros, her brothers, Marvin Sanford (Teny) and Fred Sanford (Gale).

A funeral service will be held on Tuesday, April 11, 2023, beginning at 3:00 p.m. at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church in Baker, Florida with Pastor Geoff Prows officiating. Burial to follow at Pilgrim Rest Cemetery after service. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, April 11, 2023, from 2:00 p.m – 3:00 p.m. at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church.

In Lieu of flowers the family has asked for a donation to be made at Pilgrim Rest Baptist Church Food Bank or an Animal Shelter of your choice.
