If you had the privilege of being cared for by Dr. David, you know that his care also meant his friendship. Dr. David’s commitment to serving his patients and loving his family leaves a lasting legacy following his sunrise passing Friday, June 27, 2025.
Born March 25, 1950 in Troy, Alabama to Earl Maxwell Campbell and Doris June Enzor Campbell, David Maxwell Campbell was a lifelong resident of Crestview. Early on, Dave became well known and loved by his community, abounding in memories of days gone by with numerous cousins and friends. David was part of Crestview High School Bulldogs Basketball and Football teams, sat first chair trombone in the Big Red Machine, member of the Beta Club, and the tallest boy in and Valedictorian of his 1968 graduating class.
Dr. David studied zoology at the University of Florida, maintained a 4.0 GPA for three years, and held membership in America’s most prestigious academic honor society, Phi Beta Kappa. He never received a bachelor’s degree, and instead received a rare invitation as a Junior from the UF College of Medicine to enroll in medical school a year early.
On a blind date in Gainesville, David met the love of his life: a Tri-Delta sweetheart and Army brat from Orlando; Sherry Lynn Shenesky. Dr. David graduated from the University of Florida College of Medicine in 1975, and relocated with Sherry to Mobile for internship and residency with the University of South Alabama. On September 10, 1977, David and Sherry were married at Park Lake Presbyterian Church in Orlando.
In 1979, Dr. Campbell was officially board certified. It went without saying that Dr. Dave would return home to bring medical care to his community. Dr. David partnered with Dr. George Barrow, Dr. Lee Thigpen, David’s brother Dr. Wayne Campbell, and Dr. John Johnson to found the first Crestview Medical Clinic on N Ferdon Blvd, establishing a continuous chain of medical care in Crestview.
For more than four decades, Dr. Dave touched the lives of countless individuals who put their trust in his care, and in return Dr. David gained invaluable friendships in his patients. Whether a hand-crocheted throw blanket, family-treasure dessert at Thanksgiving, or fresh peas from the pea patch, the love shown to David can’t be measured.
Dr. Campbell enjoyed traveling with his wife and family to the Smoky Mountains; Washington, D.C.; Breckinridge, Colorado; New York City; Ontario, Canada; and, perhaps the local favorite spot, the Shack. Nobody ever went for a day at the shack and left not feeling like part of the Campbell family. Especially fondly remembered by Dave was the annual “Shack Party,” hosted at the Shack every summer by Dr. David, Dr. Wayne, Dr. Thigpen, and Dr. Johnson for their beloved colleagues, nurses, and staff.
Dr. David Campbell retired on April 1, 2021 after 41 years practicing internal medicine, yet, afterwards, not a day went by that he wasn’t called on for advice or remedy. A special and sincere thank-you to David’s lifelong childhood friends who spent time by his side during recent illness: Jerry de Graaf, Dennis Tucker, Jim Reese, and Dale Riley.
Dr. David Maxwell Campbell, M.D. is survived by his wife of 47 years, Sherry Campbell; children: Rachel (Ryan Korte), Ryan (Rebecca Colvin), and Rawlins (Kristin Garrett); grandchildren: Davis, Tristen, Joshua, Addisen, Kyndal, Ellie, Easton, Tucker, Kellen, Berkeley, Harper, Charli Kaye, and Davey Lynn; brothers Wayne Enzor Campbell and Gregory Cortez “Corky” Campbell (Debbie Davis); and brothers-in-law Warren Frank Shenesky (Loi Monroe) and Tom Miller.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Earl and June Campbell; mother-in-law, Deloris Shenesky; fathers-in-law, Warren Shenesky and Denis Fauteux; sister, Kay Campbell Miller; and brother-in-law Zachary Shenesky.
All who knew and loved Dr. David are invited to join his family for a memorial service Saturday, July 19, 2025 beginning at 2pm at Crosspoint Church, South Crestview, 2250 PJ Adams Pkwy, with Pastor Mathew Hargett officiating. Then followed by a reception at the church, light refreshments will be served.
Dr. David’s remains will be cremated in accordance with his wishes. Arrangements are entrusted to Brackney Funeral Service in Crestview.
With Gratitude,
Crosspoint Church South

In the 1968 Crestview High School annual he was voted most likely to succeed. The tallest boy and the smartest as well.
I remember when he tapped me for Beta club. I didn’t follow through. Didn’t want to go through the initiation.
My mother worked with his mother for many years. His father Earl would come and walk June to lunch every day.
His brother Wayne was our family doctor.
A quiet unassuming real man.
He remains loved by all who knew him.

Danny and I respected and loved Dr. David. I grew up very close friends with Kay and knew him during my teen years then in 1981 returned to Crestview working with Dr. David at NOMC hospital as an RN until 1994. He was one of the kindest, patient, and smart physicians that I ever worked with. He will NOT BE FORGOTTEN. We are very sorry for your loss.

No words can express how much we love this family. Dr D (as we so lovingly called him) and Glenn had such memories that I later became part of that will live on forever. From his dry sense of humor to his love of the Florida Gators we were so honored to call him friend. You and Glenn stay out of trouble up there until we join you. Love and prayers for all the family. I was in David’s class at CHS, and both our families attended the Presbyterian Church in Crestview. The Campbells were part of our lives. My sister Charlotte was in Wayne’s class, my brother Kenny in Kay’s. It is with great sadness to read of his passing. We are praying for the entire family at this great loss. May God comfort you all.

I had the honor of being part of the Crestview Medical Clinic Family. So many good memories were made there. And YES, the Shack parties were the best. Also enjoyed Christmas parties and just working with them all. We were busy but always had time for practical jokes and just plain old laughter. RIP Dr. David. Thoughts and prayers to your family. Dr. David was our primary care doctor from the time we came to Crestview in the early 80s until he retired. He was like family and a friend. His professional abilities were excellent, but no more than his compassion and caring for his patients. I don’t believe he would have treated his own family any better than all of his patients. Dr. David was gentle, kind and listened intently. I can’t express how much we loved him for who he was in and out of the office. We were blessed to know him and are praying for God to hold the family in his loving arms and give them comfort and peace. I’m certain when he entered heaven our Lord said, “Well done, my good and faithful servant”.
