John Albert Barrow

February 06, 1949~January 20, 2020

John Albert Barrow, age 70, of Laurel Hill, FL, left his earthly home on January 20, 2020, and entered the gates of Heaven singing praises to our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.
J.B. was born on February 6, 1949, to James Tracy & Lois Irene Barrow, in Laurel Hill, FL. He graduated from Laurel Hill School and earned a Masters in Business Administration. He was first and foremost a Music Minister of the Gospel, an accountant and teacher. John was an extraordinary man, an accomplished singer, and a devout Christian that was loved and will always be cherished. He was an amazing husband, son, father, brother, grandfather, uncle, and friend to everyone he met. He is known for his amazing voice, quick wit, infectious smile, and his kind and compassionate heart.
He married Martha Sue Adams, a clinical laboratory scientist, on July 8, 1973, with whom he had 2 girls, Rachel Annette and Xuripha Susan. He took extreme pride in his grandchildren Simon-Colby Thomas and Maris Nicole. His 4 girls and his most favorite person in the world, his grandson, were his heart and joy. He enjoyed his deviled eggs, german chocolate cake, rootbeer, and dressing stylish, the latter led to his latest and greatest hobby, an extensive collection of hats
John began his ministry of the Gospel as the lead singer of The Singing Disciples, a Southern Gospel Music group that travelled the Southeast blessing all those fortunate enough to hear them. His songs brought not only joy, admiration, and knowledge of the Gospel of Christ, but also comfort and solace to those who were graced to hear his voice. The angel choir is silent today, as they sit in awe and wonderment, because now John's heavenly voice rings throughout the throne room of the Father.
He who dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty.{Ps 91:1)
How desolate my life would be,
How dark and dreary my nights and days,
If Jesus' face I did not see
To brighten all earth's weary ways.
I'm overshadowed by His mighty love,
Love eternal, changeless, pure
Overshadowed by His mighty love,
Rest is mine, serene, secure.
-H.A. Ironside

Loved ones that finished the race before John were his parents, J.T. & Lois Barrow; his parents in love, L.O. & Genevive Adams; his brother J.W. Barrow; his sister Ellen, and husband Billy Miller; and his sister-in-love Carol Adams. Lovingly remembering John until they meet again are his wife of 46 years and 'desert flower', Martha Sue Barrow; his two daughters Xuripha Barrow and Rachel Tidwell (Zeb); grandchildren Simon-Colby, and Maris Barrow; sister Karlene Raines (Toney); two brothers Timothy Barrow (Deborah); Duke Barrow (Jo); sister-in-love Jennifer Barrow: and brother-in-love Howard Adams; three aunts Dorcas Busbee, Elizabeth Hicks, and Bessie Barrow; along with numerous nephews and nieces of each he claimed and told was his favorite. J.B. also had three special friends throughout life who he considered family: John O’Neal (Mary Ellen), Warren Adams (Tammy), and Robert Cates (Betty); and we can not leave out his large circle of brothers and sisters in Christ of whom he loved so dearly.
A time of visitation will be held at Brackney Funeral Home in Crestview, FL on Friday, January 24, 2020, 6-8pm. His Homegoing Service will be held on Saturday, January 25, 2020 at 2pm in the Prayer Chapel of Central Baptist Church in Crestview, Fl and interment will follow at Live Oak Cemetery.

I am so saddened at the news of John’s passing. He and Sue were such a big influence in my life, especially as a child. They made me feel so special. I will never forget the kindness, love and encouragement that he and Sue gave me throughout my life. My thoughts and prayers are with Sue, Rachel, Zippy and the rest of John’s family!

My love always,
Robin (Crawford) Doss

Oh, those precious days at Campton: Sue at the piano, Howard at the organ, and John singing his heart out. We were in awe of the ease in which he lead/worshipped. On occasion, he took off on a Jericho March or run 😊 and many followed with the abandon of children. Those were the days, my friends.
Since John’s departure from this earthly realm, I can’t help but think of the joy he must be experiencing in heaven, with so many who’ve gone before him ( Bro Opal, Lexie, Genevieve, …). He no longer has to sing…🎼 Oh, I want to see Him, look upon His face… because he IS looking upon His face. You will be missed, John Barrow, probably by more people than you dared dream. MUCH LOVE TO Sue, girls, and grands from the Willis fam. 💌
