McLain “Sleepy” Rimes 43, of Crestview, Florida passed away on Wednesday, October 18, 2023. McLain was born on January 3, 1980, in Tallahassee, Florida to William and Pamela Rimes.
McLain moved here when he was born, and Okaloosa County was his home in between each travel. Jon was a well-traveled man who spent his life in the endless pursuit of knowledge. Which he so freely gave away to anyone who wanted it. Never one to turn down a good conversation over a bowl of Jambalaya with anyone from any walk of life.
Jon loved to be in nature and would rather be in fellowship in the forest than anywhere else. Sleepy was a beautifully caring and unique soul. Regardless of his physical challenges, his faith and his mother allowed him to pursue his dreams and be the man he wanted to be.
Going so much further than thought possible, Sleepy will be remembered fondly and missed for the rest of our days.
McLain is preceded in death by his grandparents, John W. and Evelyn K. Wilson.
McLain is survived by his mother, Pamela Rimes, his son, Donovan Lee Whitted, his daughter Katharine Duncan, his sister, Julie Caysun and miles of friendships that span thousands of miles.
A visitation will be held on Monday, October 23, 2023, from 10:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. from the Chapel of Brackney Funeral Service. Come as you are, please no suits.

Pam, I just saw this and I am so so sorry! I remember all the times you brought him to work and he’d come around to see me. Another time I remember him at the thrift store looking at a set of drums. I actually offered to get them for him but he politely declined. I sorta laughed and thought, whew, that’s a good one for Pam. Everywhere I saw him, he came up and spoke to me. I want to celebrate his life. Life can only get better from here! He will be missed. My heart is broken.
