SHIRLEY V. SMITH OBITUARY
Shirley V. Smith of Crestview, FL passed away August 6, 2020 at the age of 86. Shirley was born November 12, 1933 in West Terre Haute, IN and had resided in Crestview since 1969. She was preceded in death by her best friend and beloved husband, CMSgt Garren C. Smith (USAF Ret). Shirley loved her life as a mother and military wife and enjoyed a fulfilling civil service career with the Federal Government. She spent over 20 years working for the Armament Laboratory at Eglin AFB where she retired as a Financial Manager. After retirement she worked her fun job as a Hostess at the Crestview Cracker Barrel for nearly 11 years, cheerfully welcoming guests with her kind and generous spirit. Shirley loved traveling throughout the US and abroad with her many adventurous girlfriends. She was a dedicated member of Woodlawn Baptist Church for over 36 years where she filled numerous volunteer positions and developed a strong church family that shared her devotion to the Lord. Survivors include her two loving daughters, Susan Smith of Elgin, TX and Patricia Messick of Santa Fe, NM; her sister Mary Byers of Haines City, FL; and her nephew Ronald Byers, Jr. and his wife Jan of Sarasota, FL. Shirley will be deeply missed by her family and friends who cherish wonderful memories of her blessed life. A graveside service will be held at Barrancas National Cemetery, NAS Pensacola.
Don’t weep for me, I am rejoicing with my Lord.

Shirley and Garren were close friends with my grandparents, Dale and Virginia Taylor. I hold great memories of Shirley’s kindness during my summer visits to Florida as a child in the 1980s.
